How to apply for an Australian visitor visa from the UK

Living in the UK does not make every passport eligible for a simplified permit. Follow the Australian High Commission UK's page ↗ to the official visa selection tool. For a short visit, check eVisitor 651, Electronic Travel Authority 601 or Visitor 600 according to nationality, document and circumstances.
With a British passport, start by checking suitable electronic categories; with another passport, use your actual nationality. Purpose and duration matter too: tourism, a business visit and employment are not interchangeable grounds.
Use the correct application system
eVisitor 651 ↗ and an eligible online offshore Visitor 600 application ↗ use ImmiAccount. ETA uses the official Australian ETA app. Do not confuse it with the Australian Immi App used for certain identity checks.
Keep your own account access and enable the required login protection. Check every family member's passport details; travelling together does not automatically include everyone under one permit.
Prepare evidence and respond to requests
Follow the list generated for the chosen category: passport, purpose, funds, itinerary and circumstances supporting your return. Provide lawful UK residence evidence where relevant. Upload readable documents with the required translations.
Home Affairs ↗ will tell you whether biometrics are needed and how to provide them. Do not book an arbitrary centre in advance or assume an app universally exempts you from attendance. If a health examination is requested, use the designated official procedure.
Check total costs and permission conditions
Charges depend on the category; biometrics, examinations or translations may cost extra. Use the official calculation rather than an intermediary's universal Australian visa price. Published processing statistics describe past decisions and do not promise your date.
Avoid non-refundable travel commitments before written approval. Inspect the grant notice for passport details, entry window, permitted stay and activity restrictions. If your passport changes, update the information through the official procedure before travelling; a payment receipt is not a granted visa.
