Discuss the goal with a surgeon

Mastopexy changes breast shape and position. Uplift, reduction and implant augmentation are different decisions. BAAPS explains breast uplift ↗. Ask about the approach for your anatomy, scar placement and realistic outcome.

Disclose future pregnancy plans, breastfeeding, weight, smoking, conditions, medicines and previous surgery. An implant should not be chosen merely because it appears in a package. Discuss sensation and potential effects on breastfeeding separately.

Check surgeon and hospital

Verify GMC registration, relevant specialisation, procedure experience and insurance. Meet the operating surgeon rather than only a coordinator. Allow decision time and consider another opinion.

CQC explains registration of surgical clinics in England ↗. Check the actual operating address and reports. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own regulators.

Risk and recovery

Discuss bleeding, infection, healing problems, scars, sensation, asymmetry and anaesthetic risks. Obtain personal guidance for work, lifting, exercise and driving. An average leaflet timetable cannot cover every job.

Arrange transport, home and childcare assistance, reviews and an emergency contact. Chest pain, breathlessness or other acute symptoms after surgery require urgent medical help.

Complete cost

Request surgeon, anaesthetic, hospital, garment, review, medicine and revision charges separately. Clarify complication costs and distinguish treating a medical problem from changing aesthetic expectations. Assess results after recovery; ageing and weight can also alter shape. Avoid immediate-payment pressure or a supposedly urgent cosmetic discount.
