Choose the correct registration category

Decide whether onboarding as an individual/sole proprietorship or an incorporated business matches your actual legal position. These are different Etsy categories. A shop intended to earn money is not automatically an incorporated company.

Etsy explains seller-information checks ↗. Platform verification does not replace checking permission to trade, tax records or product requirements. Opening a shop does not itself establish UK work permission.

Prepare matching information

Check name, date of birth, address and banking details. Transliteration and legal names should correspond to documents and form requirements. Companies need additional registration information; a shop's trading name may differ from its legal entity.

Use a current accepted document and clear unaltered images. Follow requests for both sides where relevant information appears on the reverse. Random extra documents do not necessarily fix a specific mismatch.

ID and selfie checks

Etsy describes verification through Persona ↗, including comparison of ID and selfie photographs. Available review options depend on location. Follow the process displayed in your official account.

After a failure, read the message and correct lighting, legibility or information first. Repeated unsuccessful attempts can complicate onboarding. Avoid paying someone to “bypass verification” or inventing another identity to evade restrictions.

Payments and support

Distinguish identity and bank verification from any setup charge and payout schedule. Check amounts during registration; another seller's older experience may concern a different country or period.

Open Shop Manager independently when receiving an urgent suspension message. Submit documents only through a verified process. A support request should identify the stage, error and attempted remedies without publishing passports in open discussions. Keep the response and case reference; completing one check does not automatically complete every other stage.
