Regular cleaning maintains a home; deep cleans, post-building work and end-of-tenancy jobs usually need different time and equipment. A short routine visit is unlikely to suit heavy construction dust. Describe floor area, bathrooms, condition and priorities.
Housekeep shows postcode matching and task examples ↗. It is one way to find help. Agency, platform and direct arrangements differ in payment, replacement and responsibility, so establish whom you are hiring.
Agree specific tasks
List the priorities: bathroom, kitchen, floors or bed linen. Ask about oven interiors, refrigerators, windows, ironing and difficult access. The word cleaning does not automatically include every task.
Establish who supplies the vacuum, cloths and products. Explain delicate surfaces and scent preferences. Avoid asking someone to use an unfamiliar chemical on stone, wood or valuable finishes without checking instructions.
Price and home access
Confirm hourly rates, minimum hours, fees, extra tasks and cancellation. Two people working two hours are different from one person working two hours. Ask what can realistically be completed if the list is too long.
Discuss keys, alarms, concierge access and pets. Key storage should be clear and access details handled securely. Ask about insurance limits and damage-reporting procedures rather than assuming insured means every loss is covered.
First visit and feedback
Show the cleaner equipment, controls and supplies, and be available for initial questions. Move documents, money and fragile objects away from surfaces needing cleaning. This saves time and reduces accidental damage.
Check the agreed areas afterwards and give specific feedback. A sticky bathroom floor is easier to address than general dissatisfaction. For recurring visits, agree a stable task list and replacement arrangements. Do not add substantial last-minute work without discussing time and payment.
