Finding the right hairdresser in London: consultation, price and expectations

Maintaining a familiar shape, complex colour and working with curls may call for different specialists. Explain the change you want, how much styling time you have and your comfortable budget. Send a photograph with your everyday styling and a few examples of the desired result.
The NHBF directories ↗ offer a starting point. Then assess the selected hairdresser's work rather than only the salon's general account. If you need Russian, Ukrainian or another language, ask which stylist can provide the consultation in it.
Use the consultation well
Discuss the length you want to keep, your normal parting, cowlicks and home drying routine. Explain what failed in previous cuts. A front photograph does not show the shape at the back, so several angles help.
Confirm the service name. Cut and finish commonly includes a final style, but check the actual steps with the salon. Hershesons ↗ explains its own terminology. A small trim does not necessarily cost less than a full haircut.
Understand the price differences
Prices depend on the salon, stylist, hair and service. Headmasters describes its stylist levels ↗ within its own organisation. Senior or director is not a uniform government category across businesses.
Request a final quote including washing, styling, any thickness-related charge and selected treatments. Ask whether the consultation costs extra or is credited against a later visit. Do not agree to an additional treatment before its purpose and price have been explained.
Assess the first appointment
Repeat the agreed length before the first cut. Ask how the shape will look without salon styling and how to manage it at home. For a major change, allow consultation time rather than choosing the shortest available slot.
Before leaving, inspect the back and your usual parting. If something differs from the agreement, point to the specific area calmly. Ask about reassessment and correction policies, and keep the receipt and photographs. Judge whether to rebook by how the cut works in daily life as well as how it looks immediately after a professional blow-dry.
