An MBA may suit a move into general management, executive education a particular management skill, and CIM qualifications structured marketing development. Start with the next role and the tasks missing from your experience. Labels such as Level 7 or executive do not establish equivalent scope or awards.
MBA and Executive MBA
London Business School’s MBA ↗ is an example of a full degree covering broad management disciplines and career development. Its Executive MBA ↗ serves a different working context and study pattern. Check experience, selection and scheduling at each school; executive does not mean an easier MBA.
Compare admission tests, English, experience, references, duration and compulsory in-person blocks. Ask about the cohort, career support available to your study format and outcomes for that specific programme. Attend an information session with questions about your intended career path.
Executive education and CIM
Short executive programmes ↗ can address leadership, strategy or finance without awarding an MBA. Establish whether the outcome is attendance certification, an assessed award or academic credits; the word certificate is insufficient.
CIM publishes professional marketing qualifications ↗ at different levels, including Level 4 and Level 6. Selection depends on preparation and experience, with teaching through relevant study centres. Check the current syllabus, exemptions for previous study and assessment process. Qualification level alone does not turn an award into a bachelor’s degree.
Calculate the complete commitment
Include tuition, registration or membership, assessment and resits, travel, accommodation for compulsory blocks and earnings forgone. If your employer provides support, agree payment, study time and any repayment obligation on leaving in writing. Treat scholarships as unconfirmed until awarded.
Compare options against one question: what specific next step could this make possible, and what evidence supports that expectation? For one practical competency, investigate a short course first. Where a degree and substantial career change are required, assess the complete route and budget.
