What is included in a new-patient GP check and an NHS Health Check?

Читать на русскомRegistration and a check-up are different
After registration, a GP practice may offer an introductory appointment to review history, medicines and basic measurements. The content of a new-patient check depends on the practice and your needs. It is not a promise of comprehensive blood tests, scans or annual whole-body screening.
Ask whether a separate appointment is needed for continuing treatment. The NHS explains GP registration ↗; an introductory appointment does not replace ordinary access for symptoms.
What the NHS Health Check is
The NHS Health Check ↗ is England's cardiovascular-risk programme for eligible people aged 40–74, normally every 5 years. Certain existing diagnoses and treatments require their own monitoring pathway instead.
If you think you qualify but have not been invited, ask your GP. Where the practice does not provide the programme, the local council can advise where to attend. Do not apply England's criteria to the other UK nations.
Preparing for the appointment
Gather a medicine list with doses, allergies, diagnoses, family history and important overseas results. Highlight problems needing action: medicine running out, monitoring due or new symptoms.
A Health Check generally discusses lifestyle and family risks, takes basic measurements and checks blood pressure and cholesterol. Additional tests depend on the circumstances. Ask what the resulting risk means and which actions could improve it.
Leave with an actionable plan
Record what to change, which measurements need monitoring, the review date and who communicates results. Discuss symptoms separately even if preventive measurements are normal.
NHS blood tests ↗ address clinical questions. Do not automatically buy a large private panel because it was not included in an introductory check. First ask what each test would answer and who will interpret it. For a private check-up, clarify charges for discussing results and further investigations rather than comparing only the starting price.
