Choose the programme

A yoga retreat may combine gentle practice and rest, active walking, intensive sessions or additional fitness training. Start with a typical daily schedule: session numbers and length, free time, teaching language and whether participation is compulsory.

One current UK example is Zest Life's Yoga & Walking programme on Anglesey ↗. The operator publishes yoga, walks, meals, room types and travel via Bangor followed by a taxi. Check the actual departure date: an existing webpage does not mean a place is available next weekend.

Assess the activity level

Ask whether beginners are welcome, how movements can be adapted and whether you can skip a session. For walks, establish distances, ascent, pace and bad-weather alternatives. An all-levels description cannot replace programme details.

Review the teacher's training and relevant experience. British Wheel of Yoga ↗ provides a route to classes and retreats with BWY teachers. Membership or an attractive certificate does not promise a suitable intensity for you. Discuss any health limitations before booking.

Consider rooms and group life

Compare solo and shared rooms, private and shared bathrooms, participant numbers and arrangements for solo travellers. Ask about meals, allergies, alcohol policy, Wi-Fi and quiet hours.

Group size and social time matter if you want to meet people. Opportunities for privacy matter if you need rest. Neither is automatically guaranteed by the word retreat.

Price the complete journey

Include accommodation, classes, meals, trains, transfers, optional treatments and equipment if excluded. Establish who receives payment, the deposit, balance deadline, cancellation by you and cancellation by the organiser. For an overseas trip, separately check travel documents and insurance covering the activities.

Avoid buying non-refundable transport until your place is confirmed. Request the programme and package inclusions in writing. Detox or treatment claims should not replace a clear schedule, relevant teaching experience and transparent holiday arrangements.
