Walk the Royal Mile

Start in the Old Town and allow time for smaller passages and side streets. The route is about observing the city, not racing between the castle and palace. Check separate entry arrangements if you want to include an interior.

Choose a viewpoint

Calton Hill can be a separate stop for a panorama. Choose suitable weather and footwear, and adjust the route if climbs are unsuitable. Streets and surfaces in the Old Town vary, so check access rather than assuming an entire route is step-free.

Make the route yours

Keep a shorter plan for rain and allow a proper break. Check current transport and venue opening arrangements. Use the city page to find more reading or join a discussion about a particular neighbourhood.
