Your first week in the UK: a manageable plan
Prioritise essential arrangements and leave time to settle.
Arrival day
Confirm accommodation access, a working phone, available funds and the route from arrival to your destination. Keep important confirmations accessible offline. Leave non-urgent administrative tasks for a rested day.
The first two days
Check the accommodation, meter readings and immediate transport needs. Find groceries and essential services. Confirm responsibilities for bills instead of opening duplicate accounts.
Documents and appointments
List obligations specific to your status and arrange appointments through official channels. Prepare the evidence each organisation requests. Do not treat another newcomer's timeline as a legal deadline for you.
Healthcare and family
Check healthcare registration and school arrangements where needed. Record urgent contacts and discuss practical routines with the people travelling with you.
At the end of the week
Review the outstanding list, actual costs and daily journeys. Add one social activity or short walk that fits your energy. A successful first week is a workable foundation, not completing every possible task.
