Finding and registering with a GP in England
Use NHS practice information and check local registration arrangements.
Find nearby practices
Search the NHS service for GPs near your address and read each practice's registration instructions. Check the area it serves, whether it accepts new patients and how to contact reception. Do not infer registration eligibility from a search result alone.
Apply and keep confirmation
Follow the practice's process and ask about anything you cannot provide. Keep submission details and confirmation, then find out how appointments, repeat prescriptions and urgent requests work. NHS rules for GP registration in England should be checked directly; arrangements elsewhere in the UK differ.
If help cannot wait
GP registration is separate from getting urgent assistance. In England, use NHS 111 for urgent medical advice when appropriate and 999 for an emergency. For a child under five, call 111 rather than using 111 online. This article explains routes to services, not an assessment of symptoms.
