Choosing a manicure course for personal use in London

A course for personal use should help you care for your own nails safely; it does not automatically qualify you to treat paying clients. Decide whether you want shaping, ordinary polish and removal or more complex lamp-cured systems. A long list of certificates is not a reason by itself to buy professional training.
Ask whether the tutor will observe you working on your own hands. Neatly treating your dominant hand is different from practising on a model. A brief demonstration without supervised practice may not meet your needs.
Compare actual programmes
London Academy of Beauty ↗ lists a 55-minute introductory workshop at £49 without certification, checked on 7 October 2026. It is linked to the school's later one-day courses, so ask whether you can attend separately for personal nail care.
Gelish Education ↗ describes a more professionally oriented novice course. Compare learning objectives and practical time rather than relying on beginner or accredited in the title. Confirm dates, the total fee and entry conditions before paying.
Check the teaching content
Request a syllabus covering hygiene, tool selection, avoiding skin damage, ordinary polish, removal and situations when treatment should be postponed. Ask about group size, practical time, materials, a model and feedback after the session.
Establish whether a kit is included and what you will need to buy at home. Do not purchase lamps or products before agreeing on a system. The BAD warning ↗ highlights allergy risks from insufficient curing and skin contact with uncured material. A non-gel course is an option for personal care.
Payment and future plans
Read cancellation, transfer and refund conditions, including what happens if the school cancels. Check whether the document awarded is attendance evidence or a qualification and whether assessment is required. These documents serve different purposes.
If you later want clients, separately establish insurer requirements, qualifications and local rules for the intended service. Home practice and attendance certificates do not replace that check. After the lesson, keep a concise record of techniques and products you learned, and leave advanced procedures to a professional until you have suitable training.
