A UK pharmacist may accept certain prescriptions from the European Economic Area or Switzerland when issued by an authorised professional and meeting the requirements. This is a specific route: a prescription from another European country is not eligible simply because of geography. Even a valid prescription does not guarantee stock of a particular brand.
Information the document needs
Prepare patient details including date of birth, the issue date, signature and the prescriber's professional details and work contacts. The medicine must be identifiable by substance, formulation, strength, quantity and prescribed use.
Contact the pharmacy before travelling and ask whether it requires the original or a particular format. An app screenshot or box photograph does not guarantee compliance. Do not edit the prescription yourself to insert missing information.
Restrictions and cost
Schedule 1–3 controlled drugs and certain special unlicensed products cannot be supplied through this route; other restrictions also apply. An excluded medicine requires a separate UK clinical pathway.

If the pharmacy declines
Ask for the specific reason: missing information, an ineligible prescriber, a restricted medicine or lack of stock. Sometimes the original clinician can clarify the document; sometimes a UK GP or private specialist consultation is necessary.
