Explain that an implant was placed abroad and you need restoration or crown replacement. Not every practice supports every system. Request an assessment of compatibility and condition before expecting a definitive crown quotation.
Bupa Dental Care ↗ recommends retaining implant records for the UK dentist. Overseas treatment does not remove the need for local monitoring.
Obtain the technical records
Request manufacturer, product line, dimensions, connection type, components, operation date, surgical summary and images. Ask for an implant passport or equivalent details if no separate document exists.
Include abutment and temporary-restoration information, bone grafts and complications. Authorise the new practice to seek missing information from the original clinician. A photograph of one box may not identify the entire system.
What assessment establishes
The dentist evaluates healing, implant position, surrounding tissues, component availability and a safe restoration. Restoration is a separate stage in the Guy's and St Thomas' implant guide ↗.
Further investigations or changes may be needed. A new practice is not obliged to fit a crown solely on an overseas prescription without assessment. Report pain, mobility or inflammation first if present.
Costs and responsibility
Request assessment, parts, abutment, temporary and permanent crown, laboratory and review costs separately. Check ordering times and alternatives if components cannot be obtained.
Agree responsibility for the existing implant and new restoration, including actual guarantee terms. An overseas guarantee does not automatically apply in the UK. Keep updated component details and arrange long-term maintenance before paying for completion.
