Examine the process

Before booking, ask which tools are reused, how they are cleaned between customers and which supplies are single use. A sealed pouch alone cannot explain what happened before packaging. Request a clear account of processing, storage and separation of clean and used equipment.

Disposable files should not circulate between customers. Clean surfaces, hand hygiene and protected instruments matter together. Bringing a personal kit does not replace a hygienic workspace or appropriate handling.

Check the salon

GOV.UK describes local treatment licensing ↗. Greater London arrangements, excluding the City of London, can cover manicures. Check the actual borough and premises rather than applying London's rules nationwide. Permission does not guarantee every aspect of workmanship.

Discuss cuticle work and less invasive options. Disclose diabetes, healing problems and previous gel reactions. Inflamed skin may need clinical advice before a cosmetic appointment.

Reactions and injury

Do not endure burning for the finished appearance. Ask the technician to stop and identify the product. BAD explains contact dermatitis ↗, including reactions to nail cosmetics. A photograph cannot reliably distinguish allergy, infection and injury.

Increasing pain, swelling, pus or spreading redness need medical attention. Avoid covering a problem with another coating. Keep the product name and treatment date for a clinician.

Price and complaints

Establish whether removal, repairs, artwork and correction are included. You can decline to continue when hygiene concerns arise. Record the issue without photographing other customers, retain the receipt and send a specific written complaint explaining your requested remedy.
