Alternatives to gel manicures and choosing ordinary nail polish

Ordinary polish may suit you if salon visits take too long, gel removal is inconvenient or you enjoy changing colours. Itching, swelling, pain or nail changes need their cause assessed rather than a random switch to another adhesive product.
AAD discusses traditional polish as an alternative to gel ↗. This does not establish that every formula suits everyone. BAD explains contact dermatitis ↗; “natural” or “HEMA-free” is not an individual allergy assessment.
Compare practical options
Ordinary polish does not need a curing lamp unless the specific product's directions say otherwise. Allow drying time and more frequent replacement. Shaping, gentle filing and moisturising can provide a tidy appearance without any coloured coating.
Press-on nails and adhesive strips may suit a brief occasion, but have their own ingredients, preparation and removal requirements. Do not assume they are safe substitutes after a reaction. Follow manufacturer guidance and avoid extending wear of damaged or lifting products merely to save money.
Shopping and salon bookings
Look for ordinary polish, classic manicure or regular polish rather than shellac or gel polish. Establish whether previous-product removal, shaping, preparation and colour are included. Some salons offer only gel systems; discover that before paying a deposit.
For home use, include polish, any required compatible base and top coat, remover and your time. Start with one useful shade. A large collection rarely solves difficult application or insufficient drying time.
Removal and monitoring
Follow the product's directions without peeling coatings or filing the natural nail to speed things up. Ask your technician about appropriate removal of remaining gel before applying another system over it.
Persistent changes, pain or inflammation need medical assessment. Decorative coatings do not treat infection and can obscure changes. Choose for comfort and practicality, without assuming nails need permanent covering.
