Keep a manageable venue list

Follow official updates from theatres you genuinely like and use Official London Theatre's catalogue ↗. National Theatre has its own listings ↗. A few useful sources are easier than many duplicate advertising emails.

Distinguish production announcements from ticket release. News may contain only a season, initial casting or waiting list. Record general-sale date and British time, accounting for daylight-saving changes when booking abroad.

Priority and membership

Priority access can depend on membership level. Check cost, duration, renewal and actual access window. Membership does not necessarily guarantee the most popular performance. Assess value across realistic future visits rather than one hoped-for ticket.

For several tickets, check account limits and adjacent-seat availability. Create an official account beforehand without sharing passwords for group purchases. Confirm payment and collection requirements.

Discounted and late availability

Day seats, rush, lotteries and returns use different processes. Verify the particular production's channel, timing and limits because conditions change. Avoid non-refundable travel or accommodation based solely on a possible lottery win.

For an essential date, an acceptable ordinary ticket may be preferable when affordable. Flexible visitors can benefit from later availability. Compare sightlines and total cost rather than a discount percentage alone.

Verify the purchase

Open the theatre site independently and follow its named seller. A search advertisement may lead to an intermediary charging differently. Check date, time, row, view restrictions and cancellation or postponement terms.

Keep confirmation and delivery instructions. Establish whether an electronic ticket requires an account or app; a screenshot is not always sufficient. Review venue updates before attending, including casting if that drove your choice.
