Choosing an air fryer in the UK: capacity, kitchen space and total cost

Compare an air fryer with your actual cooking rather than a promise that it completely replaces an oven. List several usual meals, portion counts and likely frequency of use. A separate appliance can be convenient for a small portion; a large tray meal may need a different method or several batches.

Capacity in a real kitchen

Measure worktop space, including the clearance required by the instructions, drawer opening and access to a socket. Ask about usable basket area: litres alone do not show whether your usual meal fits in one layer.

For a two-compartment model, establish how the total capacity is divided and which functions operate simultaneously. A larger body is not necessarily more convenient if it requires clearing half the kitchen before every use.

Cooking and cleaning features

Check permitted cookware and accessories, basket cleaning and dishwasher compatibility of individual parts. Do not transfer settings between models without checking their instructions.

Compare running costs

Include the appliance, necessary accessories and replacement parts. Electricity use depends on power, duration and the number of batches. A rough estimate is kilowatts × operating hours × your unit rate; it is an estimate because heating may cycle.

Compare the same task: one portion or a complete family dinner. Advertised savings for a small load do not establish identical savings for several consecutive batches. Consider whether the oven will still be operating at the same time.
