For a first haircut, a suitable professional and manageable environment matter more than an elaborate style. Explain the child's age, previous experiences and sensitivity to noise, touch or dryers. Ask whether a familiarisation visit or longer slot is possible.
Show the intended length and agree on what happens if the child becomes upset. Avoid promising that the process will certainly be unnoticeable or extremely quick. Explain simply that a familiar adult will stay nearby while the hair is shortened.

Trotters ↗, checked on 7 October 2026, lists £25 for a haircut and £10 for a separate fringe trim. Standard slots are 20 minutes; hair is dampened rather than washed, then dried. A first haircut booking includes a keepsake certificate.
These are one provider's terms. Confirm the price, branch, stylist and availability of extra appointment time. A fringe trim does not cover a general all-over trim. For siblings, check whether bookings run simultaneously or consecutively.
Alternatives to a salon
Tots Crops ↗ describes mobile appointments and services in participating nurseries. Check postcode coverage, minimum call-out cost and whether booking several children together is required or preferable. Nursery appointments depend on arrangements with the particular setting.
For additional needs, agree on adjustments before paying: a quieter time, avoiding the dryer, breaks and a familiar adult nearby. A children's salon label does not guarantee every adjustment.
Preparation and rescheduling
Choose a time when the child is usually rested and has eaten. Bring a familiar small comfort item, checking what is permitted near the chair. Mention cosmetic reactions and ask about products beforehand.
