Buying contact lenses with a valid UK specification

Prescription contact lenses require an in-date specification following fitting. The General Optical Council ↗ explains the document and supply requirements. A spectacle prescription does not replace contact-lens fitting.
Check the expiry date, parameters and specified lens. Do not calculate these from spectacle strength yourself or switch materials merely because the numbers match.
After moving to the UK
Bring your overseas prescription, current lens packaging and last-examination details. A practitioner will assess whether the records are sufficient and new fitting is needed. Ask beforehand about sight-test, fitting and aftercare fees.
If the specification has expired or discomfort or visual changes develop, arrange assessment first. Do not buy a large stock to avoid review.
Online and practice purchases
Choose a seller with clear business details, supply terms and an accountable optical professional. Ask how to provide your specification. Check packaging, expiry and conformity with the prescribed product.
A seller not requesting documentation does not establish safety or remove the requirements. Children and some other groups have additional supply conditions; an ordinary adult online route cannot automatically be applied.
Reviews and overall cost
Compare lenses, solutions, delivery, fitting and aftercare. A subscription may include some services, but check the contract. Keep your specification and agree the next review date.
For pain, redness or worsening vision, stop wearing lenses and obtain urgent professional assessment. Do not address an eye problem simply by trialling brands. An in-date specification establishes purchase parameters but does not remove the need for help with new symptoms.
