Choosing foundation and powder in the UK

Foundation, concealer and powder serve different purposes. Decide whether you want light evening-out, fuller coverage or reduced shine in selected areas. You do not need three purchases simply because a consultant used them during a demonstration.
Identify the problem with your current product: colour, dryness, wear, transfer or consumption. That is more useful than requesting “the best”. Consider your usual skincare and realistic application time.
Check colour carefully
Assess the transition towards your neck in daylight. A hand swatch may not match your face. Request several nearby options and, where available, a sample for an ordinary day.
MAC offers a foundation finder ↗ and explains depth and undertone ↗. Brands use different naming systems; matching letters or numbers do not establish matching colour. Check the exact formula even within one brand.
Test in normal conditions
Inspect the result later, not only immediately after application, using everyday lighting. Check compatibility with your usual moisturiser and sunscreen. A store demonstration requiring an entirely different preparation routine may not reflect what you will do at home.
For powder, decide which areas need it and how visible a layer is acceptable. Compare pressed and loose versions for carrying and application. “Translucent” does not establish invisibility on every skin tone; assess your own complexion and relevant photographs.
Budget and hygiene
Compare volume, consumption, pump inclusion and additional tools. One useful expensive product can make more sense than several unsuitable cheap purchases, but price alone does not establish quality.
Request a clean disposable applicator and hygienic tester handling. Establish opened-product returns before buying: an unsuitable shade and a defective product are different circumstances. Record the exact shade and formula to simplify repeat purchases.
