Contact-lens fitting is separate from a routine spectacle sight test. Explain whether you are a new wearer, which lenses you used and what is unsatisfactory. Bring packaging and prescriptions.
The College of Optometrists ↗ describes professional assessment, discussion of suitable options and safe-use instruction.
Discuss daily requirements
Describe screen work, wearing hours, sport, allergies, medicines and dryness. Ask which symptoms suggest poor fitting or another eye condition.
Request the rationale for material, replacement schedule and care solution. The question is not simply which brand is best: the lens must suit your eyes and use. For specialist lenses, ask about relevant practitioner experience.
Training and review
First-time use needs instruction in insertion, removal and care. Request written guidance and supervised practice. Check whether trial lenses and review after real-world wear are included.
Do not accept persistent discomfort as an inevitable adaptation cost. Record when symptoms start and whether breaks help. Check lens compatibility before using arbitrary eye drops.
Comparing charges
Ask about the initial fitting, follow-up, specification and ongoing aftercare. For subscriptions, establish what continues after cancellation and whether prescribed lenses can be purchased separately.
Check the practitioner through the GOC ↗. Remove lenses and seek urgent assessment for pain, marked redness, light sensitivity or deteriorating vision. The cause needs examination, rather than simply switching to a more expensive pack.
