Hair colour matters

Laser reduction relies on hair pigment. Leeds NHS describes limitations for white, grey and blond hair ↗. Fine downy hair should not be treated as a standard target for every machine.

Request assessment of the actual treatment area rather than head-hair colour. Dark and unpigmented hairs can coexist. Claims of identical effects across every colour need a clear explanation.

Before buying a package

Ask about technology, your expected outcome and how progress will be assessed after initial appointments. Establish payment consequences if response is inadequate. Repeated package extensions should not replace reconsidering the plan.

Compare photographs under similar conditions and an agreed interval after shaving. Smoothness immediately after an appointment cannot demonstrate long-term reduction. Ask what measurable change counts as success.

Consider electrolysis

Discuss treatment of individual hairs, required time, practitioner experience and tolerability. A small area may be more practical than a large body region. GOV.UK explains local electrolysis permissions ↗, including Greater London arrangements.

Check sterile single-use supplies, insurance and aftercare. Suitable hair colour does not eliminate burns, pigment changes or scarring risks. Discuss skin, medication and an initial small-area appointment.

Compare actual costs

Laser commonly charges by area and session, whereas electrolysis often charges by time. Estimate multiple appointments and travel rather than comparing only minimum bookings. Session counts and outcomes remain individual. Sudden increased hair growth or other symptoms warrant GP discussion about possible medical causes before repeatedly buying cosmetic courses.
