Choose one main outcome

Drying your own hair quickly, creating root volume and making an occasion hairstyle are different goals. For a first lesson, choose a result you can repeat at home. Explain your hair length and texture, available styling time and existing tools.

Do not confuse personal tuition with professional hairdressing training. A professional course may involve mannequins and models without teaching you to use a dryer comfortably on your own head. Ask who performs most of the practice: you or the tutor.

Where to look

Duck & Dry offers a blow-dry workshop ↗, while WIG London describes individual lessons for styling your own hair ↗. These illustrate the format. Confirm current availability, location, duration and fee directly: a published page does not guarantee a lesson on your preferred date.

Ask for teaching examples on similar hair. For curls, establish whether the lesson supports your natural pattern or focuses on straightening. Explain restricted arm movements or other access needs beforehand.

Agree on the contents

Ask whether to arrive with washed, dry or otherwise prepared hair, whether you can bring your dryer and brush, and whether products and written notes are included. Compare the technique using salon equipment and your own tools; otherwise reproducing it at home may be difficult.

Request the complete price, transfer rules and any conditions about redeeming the fee against products. Agree in advance if you want to record a demonstration. Do not assume a standard blow-dry appointment includes a full lesson and extra practice time.

Make the lesson useful

Ask to watch one stage and then perform it yourself under supervision. Learning a manageable sequence is more useful than watching five elaborate styles. Note sectioning, direction and settings appropriate to your device's instructions.

Finish with a minimal equipment and product list. Do not automatically purchase a professional kit: ask what your home setup actually lacks. Practise soon after the appointment, note the difficult stages and check whether a short follow-up question to the tutor is included.
