Finding reliable London events listings

Start with date and purpose

Choose the day, area, budget and company. Exhibitions, talks, walks and social evenings need different preparation. Check children's age limits and specific access requirements rather than relying on an “accessible” label.

Shortlist two or three options and a backup. An overcrowded itinerary can become mainly transport. Allow time between venues, meals and a practical journey home.

Where to look

Visit London publishes city listings ↗. For our community's meetings, use Tell Me UK events ↗. Then verify the actual date, venue and ticket with the organiser or venue.

An old social post is not a current announcement. Annual festivals can keep their names while dates, locations and formats change. Check year and status: announcement, on sale, waiting list or finished.

Understand the total price

Check booking charges, reservations, separately ticketed exhibitions and age categories. Free museum admission may exclude a temporary show. For talks, establish language and discussion format; for walks, check duration and start and finish points.

Food-related events may charge meals separately. Bar events can require a minimum purchase. Compare the per-person total including travel rather than the headline price alone.

Before leaving

Check organiser updates, transport disruption and weather. Save ticket and address offline; similar venue names in different areas can be confusing. Establish lateness rules for timed admission.

Agree a meeting point before encountering crowds. Check identification requirements for personalised tickets. Keep useful sources afterwards, while rechecking each future event: listings change rather than providing a permanent city timetable.
