Foreign nationality and UK residence are separate issues; British citizens do not need a visa for an ordinary short visit.

The official online form generates a unique code. Complete your own application, then print and sign it. Do not use someone else's completed form, even for a shared trip.
Each applicant needs a separate appointment. Minors must attend too: children under 12 are exempt from fingerprints but still need to be present. Previously supplied biometrics also do not automatically allow someone else to submit your file.

Compare names and dates throughout the documents. If explaining an unusual route or support from another person, provide clear evidence rather than expecting the receiving officer to infer the circumstances. Bring the checklist itself along with the documents.
Plan payment and return
Applications can generally be submitted six months before travel; the minimum 15-day interval is not a promise of a decision by a particular date. Check the consular fee and separate VFS charge. At submission you choose collection or delivery and receive a tracking reference.
Notification that the passport has returned does not itself tell you whether the visa was approved. If another person collects it, arrange the required authorisation and documents in advance. Check validity dates, entries and permitted days before finally confirming the journey.
