How to apply for a Swedish Schengen visa from the UK

Nationality and passport type determine the visa requirement, rather than living in Britain. The Swedish mission's guidance ↗ specifically states that UK Travel Document holders need a Schengen visa for Sweden. Rules for British citizen passports cannot automatically be applied to those documents.
For a new application, Sweden must be the appropriate destination country. A short visit, relocation and employment require different checks.
Apply through VFS
The London embassy no longer examines Schengen applications. The process runs through official VFS Sweden UK ↗, with decisions made by the Swedish Migration Agency in Sweden. Direct application and technical questions to the provider's official channel.
Use the electronic process and follow instructions on biometrics and passport submission. Do not send your passport to the embassy on the assumption that it will register the application. Before final confirmation, check your category, uploads and the applications included for your family.
Prepare evidence of purpose and funds
The Swedish Migration Agency ↗ provides different requirements for tourism, visits to relatives and other purposes. Use the relevant list together with local VFS instructions for your passport, UK status, accommodation, funds, insurance and intention to complete the visit.
If a host pays, check the required form and evidence of their undertaking. Do not substitute a relative's informal message for the official application package. Keep copies of the submitted documents and payment confirmation.
Passport transport needs separate time
The application is transmitted electronically while your passport is couriered to Sweden. The published normal examination period of around 15 days runs from the Migration Agency receiving the necessary materials and may extend to 45 days. Transport in both directions is additional.
Check visa and service charges, collection conditions and whether the recipient needs to attend. Avoid another international journey while your passport is being transferred. Once it returns, check the decision and visa sticker before finally arranging the trip.
